Campaign for Property Tax Relief
In an effort to help struggling Pennsylvanians, Governor Tom Wolf, along with members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation recommended that a portion of the remaining COVID-19 relief funds be used to expand and/or increase funds to senior citizens and households with a disabled family member through the existing Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
Governor Wolf’s plan, unveiled in February of 2022, would earmark $204 million in one-time funds to the program. Our client’s goal was for the Wolf property tax forgiveness plan to be part of a final budget deal in July 2022.
The strategy for Better PA was to a) increase awareness of the Wolf plan to expand property tax rebates in targeted regions of the states, and b) ask constituents to contact target legislators to encourage them to make increased property tax rebates a part of a final budget deal in June.
Among other tactics, we created videos telling the story of several Pennsylvania seniors who were struggling to make ends meet on fixed incomes, explaining how they would benefit from an expansion of the program. We launched a paid digital campaign that results in nearly two million impressions in targeted state legislative districts, resulting in over 50k engagements and over 3,500 letters and over 800 calls to lawmakers from their constituents.
When the budget was finalized, the expansion of the property tax rebate to help seniors in Pennsylvania WAS INCLUDED after garnering wide bipartisan support.
